DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Snow accumulations 8 to 15 inches are expected with 1 to 2 ft expected above 4500 ft. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph over high and exposed terrain. * WHERE...North Central and Southeast Siskiyou County and South Central Siskiyou County. Including the locations of...Dunsmuir, McCloud, Mount Shasta, Bray, Pondosa, Tennant. This also includes the following passes or notable locations... Black Butte Pass on I-5 at 3900 ft. Snowmans Hill Summit on state highway 89 at 4310 ft. Dead Horse Summit on State Highway 89 at 4489 ft. Mt. Shasta ski park highway around 5400 ft. Grass Lake at Mt. Hebron at 5291 ft. Bunny Flat on Everitt Memorial highway at 6900 ft. * WHEN...Until 10 AM PST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Travel may be very difficult to impossible. Similar to cirrocumulus clouds, altocumulus clouds are characterized by cloud patches. They are distinguished by larger cloudlets than cirrocumulus clouds but are still smaller than stratocumulus clouds.

Altocumulus clouds most commonly form in middle altitudes (between 2 and 5 km) and may resemble, at times, the shape of a flying saucer. These uncommon formations, called altocumulus lenticularis, are created by uplift in the atmosphere and are most often seen in close proximity to mountains.

Cirrocumulus Clouds Next Topic: Cirrostratus Clouds

Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km) and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as "cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.

Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud formations generally pass rapidly.
