AREAS AFFECTED: Lower Middle Klamath; Hoopa; Trinity
DESCRIPTION: ...SCATTERED DRY THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND FRIDAY ACROSS THE INTERIOR MOUNTAINS... .Scattered dry thunderstorms are forecast to develop in the Klamath Mountains Thursday afternoon and evening. The highest confidence of storms is in Siskiyou, Northern Humboldt, Eastern Del Norte, and Trinity counties. Some thunder potential also exists in southern Humboldt and in the Yolla Bollys. Thunderstorms are possible again on Friday, with storms possible further south into interior Mendocino and Northern Lake, along with interior Humboldt and Trinity Counties. The National Weather Service in Eureka has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect from 11 AM to 11 PM PDT Thursday. a Fire Weather Watch has also been issued. This Fire Weather Watch is in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening. * THUNDERSTORMS...Scattered thunderstorms are possible in the afternoon, mostly over the higher terrain. * OUTFLOW WINDS...Gusty and erratic outflow winds up to 40 mph are possible. * IMPACTS...Lightning strikes may start fires.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Hail is a form of precipitation which is recognized by large solid balls or
clumps of ice. Hail is created by thunderstorm clouds with strong updrafts of wind.
As the hailstones remain in the updraft, ice is deposited onto them until their
weight becomes heavy enough for them to fall to the earth's surface.
Hail storms can cause significant damage to crops, aircrafts, and man-made structures,
despite the fact that the duration is usually less than ten minutes.

A mammatus cloud is a cloud with a unique feature which resembles
a web of pouches hanging along the base of the cloud.
In the United States, mammatus clouds tend to form in the warmer months, commonly
in the Midwest and eastern regions.
While they usually form at the bottom of a cumulonimbis cloud, they can also form
under altostratus, altocumulus, stratocumulus, and cirrus clouds. Mammatus clouds
warn that severe weather is close.
