DESCRIPTION: * WHAT...Light winds and limited air movement will lead to a period of stagnant air conditions. * WHERE...Lower Columbia River and Cowlitz River Valleys, and Lane County Lowlands. * WHEN...Until 10 PM PST Friday. * IMPACTS...Deteriorating air quality may cause issues for people with respiratory problems. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The Dense Fog Advisory has been cancelled as visibilities have risen above one quarter of a mile.
INSTRUCTION: State air quality agencies highly recommend that no outdoor burning occur and that residential wood burning devices be limited as much as possible. According to state air quality agencies, prolonged periods of stagnant air can hold pollutants close to the ground where people live and breathe. Check with your local burn agency for any current restrictions in your area. People with respiratory illness should follow their physician's advice for dealing with high levels of air pollution during periods of stagnant air, especially if an Air Quality Alert is in effect for your area. Cirrocumulus clouds form at high altitudes (usually around 5 km)
and have distinguishing characteristics displayed in a fine layer of
small cloud patches. These small cloud patches are sometimes referred to as
"cloudlets" in relation to the whole cloud formation.
Cirrocumulus clouds are formed from ice crystals and water droplets. Often, the
water droplets in the cloud freeze into ice crystals and the cloud becomes a
cirrostratus cloud. Because of this common occurrence, cirrocumulus cloud
formations generally pass rapidly.
